Tennis
We have 2 floodlit artificial clay courts and 2 macadam courts, 1 of which is floodlit, so we play tennis all year round. As you will see from the pictures our courts are surrounded by netting, so play on one court is not disturbed by balls encroaching from adjoining courts.
We have all standards and vintages among our members. We have teams which play in the Surrey leagues and internal tournaments for those who want to play competitive tennis. For those that like social tennis, we have several social sessions each week – or of course, you can use the courts outside these time for your own arranged games with other members.
We also have a lively junior section.
There is coaching available – either through private or group lessons – and a practice wall is available for you to use.
Social Tennis
Our social tennis sessions are a good way of meeting and playing with a variety of players from the Club. We play doubles, and we aim to put together fours that are of a similar standard so that everybody gets a good game. With four courts available, there is rarely any need to wait for a court to become free between your sets. Men and women all mix in at these sessions. And then we adjourn to the bar so that we get to spend time together off-court as well.
Coming to one of our social tennis sessions is a good way of newcomers getting to see the Club. These are on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm and Saturday afternoons from 2pm.
Competitive Tennis
For those of you who want to play competitively the Club offers a mix of opportunities.
Surrey league
LTA Surrey run leagues in both summer and winter in which teams from different clubs compete. Our Club fields men’s, ladies and mixed teams. Contact our Tennis Secretary for more information.
Annual inter-club tournament
We also run a very popular open mixed doubles event – the Dennis Parker Mixed Doubles Open Tournament – which regularly attracts entrants from many other local clubs.
Club competitions
We run club tournaments for our members in both summer and winter, with opportunities for singles and doubles entrants. The highlight of our year is our finals day in July. We also offer a prize for the most improved player each year.
Most bank holidays a social American tournament is run for all our members.
And throughout the year for those who enjoy singles, we run a singles ladder.
